The patron saint of Wales, St David, held deep respect for nature: the land was the primary source of food for his simple and healthy diet, and he taught his followers the importance of living in harmony with the environment around them.
In more recent times, Gerard Morgan-Grenville founded the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT)<\/strong> in Machynlleth, central Wales, which over the years has become the heart of the Welsh environmental movement.<\/p>\n

Established in 1974 to experiment with alternative energy<\/strong> sources, the centre has taken on a significant role and is now a highly respected ecological laboratory<\/strong> as well as a clear source of inspiration and information. It welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every year, all coming to discover its remarkable work.
The Centre is in a constant state of evolution and adaptation: new and stimulating projects, models and ideas emerge every day, and research into new approaches to environmental challenges continues through the \u201cZero Carbon Britain<\/strong>\u201d project.<\/p>\n

More recently, it gave rise to the Wales Institute for Sustainable Education<\/strong>, an important centre dedicated to environmental education, further enriching an already extensive programme of courses and lessons.<\/p>\n
