The Octagonal Hall is a space dedicated to deep listening, presence and connection with what surrounds us.
It was not created as a simple room, but as a symbolic place, designed to welcome practices that centre the body, mind and feeling.
Here time slows down, noise fades and every experience can find its own natural rhythm.
The large octagonal hall of 86 square metres has been built entirely with natural materials, following the principles that guide the whole of Autosufficienza Farm.
Wood, straw and lime-hemp constitute the structure of the walls, finished in raw earth; the flooring is in solid oak, whilst a large wood-burning stove contributes to creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Every construction choice has been made to dialogue with the place, reduce environmental impact and offer a space that is perceived before it is even explained.
Wellbeing within the hall is ensured by simple and natural solutions.
Cooling occurs through the intake of external air that cools down in the underground passage, whilst ventilation is guaranteed by the large windows and supporting mechanical fans.
The warm LED lighting is adjustable, to adapt the atmosphere to different activities and times of day.
Mats, meditation chairs, blocks and straps are available in the hall, as well as a blackboard, projector and quality sound system. Changing rooms and facilities are located at the entrance.
A space designed to be inhabited with simplicity, without compromising on functionality.
The octagonal shape is not random.
The octagon represents the balance between forms and energies: it is the transitional figure between the square, symbol of the earth and the human dimension, and the circle, expression of the sky and the spiritual dimension.
The number eight, present in the cardinal and intermediate directions, evokes cosmic harmony and the continuous movement between opposites that complement each other.
At the centre of the wooden floor, laid following the octagonal shape, there is a rosette featuring the Bagua: eight trigrams composed of yin and yang lines, with the symbol of the Tao at the centre.
In Taoism, the Bagua represents the universe as an expression of the interaction between two fundamental forces that give rise to the eight manifestations of Nature: Energy, Time, Space, Matter, Light, Water, Wind and Earth.
Arranged according to the Early Heaven sequence, the Bagua bears witness to the original imprint of Creation and is deeply connected to the orientations of the Earth.
The hall is also surrounded by an external wooden deck and a panoramic lawn, which can be used for activities or as spaces for breaks and refreshment, overlooking a landscape that naturally invites contemplation.
