Città della Luce is not a real city, or rather it’s not only this, but much more.
It all started in the ’90s when a group of young people decided to dedicate their lives to Reiki. They joined together, formed a community and began to organise courses and events in Genoa, all relating to holistic disciplines. From the need to expand spaces and to be surrounded by greenery, these young people moved to Turbigo, near Novara and then finally to the Marche hinterland in a place rich in peace and land to cultivate. They wanted to experiment and create a new way of living and working, of being together in respect, support and mutual trust. They wanted to cooperate in a dimension in which there is time and space to take care of oneself and relationships, time for one’s partner and children, for study, for personal growth and for professional self-realisation.
The philosophical models from which they draw inspiration are the “Civitas Dei” by Saint Augustine and “The City of the Sun” by Tommaso Campanella, but also the “Republic” by Plato and “Utopia” by Thomas More. But it’s above all in Reiki, in the concept of growth and universal love, in the inner work of healing and resolution of conflicts, intra and interpersonal, that a source of energy and inspiration is found. And so in 1999 the Centro Internazionale Reiki Cultural Association was born. In the Association, at this point, hundreds of people continued to flock for personal growth courses. A Computer Science school and a Ceramic Art workshop were born. A restaurant was opened. Ayurveda and Yoga courses were held, as well as sewing and Natural Cosmetics courses. And always new people joined the project.
It’s 2006 and the La Città della Luce Cultural and Social Promotion Association was founded.
Over the years the community has grown: currently it’s composed of twenty-five resident members, from two to 85 years old, by about ten young people who collaborate, study and attend the activities proposed by the Association, by hundreds of people who from all over Italy follow the Holistic School for Operators and Counsellors and the various courses.
The effective members of the Community live together, grandparents, parents, sons, daughters and friends, they share time, goods, talents and emotions, as well as the spaces of the house, they grow together every day and together with them the Città della Luce project grows: a new model of society based on love and awareness, sustainable in relationships and capable of using resources in a respectful manner towards the environment and all living beings.
All members of the community are invited to continue the study of Reiki, systemic theory, knowledge of Chakras and psychosomatics, Yoga and Ayurvedic philosophy, conscious nutrition. The relationship between community members is at the top of their scale of values. Every decision is made through the Consensus method, with honesty and free expression of inner feeling, in order to reach an agreement based on respect for everyone and the common good.
In order to achieve self-sufficiency, La Città della Luce develops a variety of sustainable practices, using different tools, including:
- the cultivation of 3 hectares of land according to the principles of synergistic and biodynamic agriculture
- the use of local ancient grains
- spontaneous fruit plants, wild berries collected in the woods around the house to prepare jams
- medicinal herbs used for the preparation of natural cosmetic products and herbal teas
- 400 olive trees that provide the organic oil that we preserve and use both in cooking and in the preparation of cosmetics
- 12 beehives for the production of healthy honey rich in authentic nutritional principles
